Worship, Watch, and Warn – The Revelation of Jesus Christ

Lord, help us to live in the light of Your revelation of Yourself, for the unveiling of Jesus Christ demands that we worship You, watch for Your return, and warn the lost of coming judgment.

“I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death” (Revelation 1:18).

Let us serve You Lord Jesus with love, perseverance, and purity, for You  know what is good and what is bad in each local church and what each church must do to please You.

“Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love”(Rev. 2:4).

Lord Jesus, as head of the church, You discern, judge, and support each local church.  Let us serve You faithfully and zealously.

“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me” (Revelation 3:20).

Worshiping You is the believer’s natural reaction to Your majesty, character, and power.  Let us worship You in all sincerity.

“Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing” (Revelation 5:12).

We rejoice in Christ our Lamb and Shepherd, the Savior of the redeemed, while still realizing that Christ, is the Lion of Judah, who judges the ungodly.

“For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes” (Rev.7:17).

God’s judgments are certain, severe, and appropriate for righteousness to be vindicated.  This is why we trumpet the gospel to the lost.

“But the Lord shall endure for ever: he hath prepared his throne for judgment. And he shall judge the world in righteousness, he shall minister judgment to the people in uprightness”  (Psalm 9:7, 8).

We know that praise to God is sharpened by the contrast between good and evil.  Help us to praise You Lord for Your victory over evil.

“We give thee thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which art, and wast, and art to come; because thou hast taken to thee thy great power, and hast reigned” (Rev. 11:17).

Lord Jesus, even in the darkest of days, You stand as our sovereign, let our hope be in You in these dark times.

“I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them” (Revelation 14:13).

Your wrath is based on Your righteous character, let our praise to God be for Your righteousness.

“And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints” (Revelation 15:3).

Lord, help us to consider the sureness of Your judgment, knowing when You decide, that  is the time for judgment to come.

“I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth” (Rev.19:6).

Christ will return as King of Kings and Lord of Lords, in light of this truth let us witness faithfully looking for Your sure return.

“And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS” (Revelation 19:16).

Give us a burden for the lost. Unrepentant sin brings eternal punishment.

“Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years” (Revelation 20:6).

Let us show that we value eternal life, assured in our hearts that hope will be fulfilled! and Heaven will be gained at last!!

“I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God” (Revelation 21:3).

Prayer for Godly Zeal

Father, help us to have faith in Your provision for spiritual growth, assured that Your power is sufficient for us as believers.  We strive to be all You Father, want us to be.  “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue”
(2 Peter 1:3).

Let us give diligence to make our salvation sure by developing Christian character as we wait for Your Son's return.  “Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall” (2 Peter 1:10).

Heavenly Father help us to trust in Your Word, consistently relying on the trustworthiness of  the Bible.  “We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts” (2 Peter 1:19).

Let us know the truth and beware of false teachers, being always on the alert for their appearance among our number.  “But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction”           (2 Peter 2:1).

Let us serve You for the right reasons, for false teachers who arise in the fellowship of believers will be morally degenerate in character and conduct.  “Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness”  (2 Peter 2:15).

Teach us to value genuine faith.  a person's conduct is controlled by who they are by nature.  “But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire” (2 Peter 2:22).

Help us to learn to respond the right way to Your longsuffering by witnessing, knowing those skeptics who deny Christ’s return don’t understand God’s longsuffering.  “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance”                  (2 Peter 3:9).

Father show us how to evaluate our spiritual growth in light of eternity, because we must look forward to the Day of the Lord by living a godly lifestyle.  “Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless” (2 Peter 3:14).

Lord, You have taught us to walk in truth and love measured by the Scriptures, for a believer’s walk in truth includes refusing to accept or support false teachers.  “Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward” (2 John 8).

Teach us to lead with love, not selfishness, for godly leaders are characterized by love and selflessness.  “Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God” (3 John 11).

Help us to learn what it means to contend for the faith, for You have shown us that we must be zealous in contending for and living out the faith.   “Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints” (Jude 3).

Father, we as Your children need to know how false teachers think and act as they do, for false teachers are a threat to believers, help us by Your grace to reject false teachers and their ways.  “But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves” (Jude 10).

Have mercy on us that we may live with distinction as believers, for Christians are to live distinctive lives in Christ Jesus.  “But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life” (Jude 20, 21). Amen!

Prayer of Bible Based Assurance

Father, we know from Your Word that You desire Your children to know that we are truly saved, and we are to bare the marks of authentic Christianity ,i.e. understanding biblical truth, obedience to Your will, and sharing Your divine love. (1Jn.5:13)

We ask that You give us the kind of fellowship that flows out of regular and sincere prayer, humble service, esteeming others more highly than ourselves.  Help us to solve conflicts quickly.  Teach us to maintain fellowship with You, Father, through faithfully studying Your Word, consistent confession of sins, living obediently by the power of Your Holy Spirit.  These qualities strengthen our fellowship with You Lord and others. (1Jn.1:3)

This fellowship is nurtured when sin is honestly confronted, understanding that sin will destroy our intimacy with You.  Help us not to deny sin, but to confess it, help us to see that all are sinners, but that believers have an advocate with You Father, Your Son,  Jesus Christ.  Help me to honestly confront sin in my life. (1Jn.2:2)

Make me a genuine Christian who knows the true God, consistently obeying Your Word, being in Christ and having God’s love perfected in me, loving Your people.  Make this obedience ,  evident to all that I am your disciple. (1Jn.2:6)

Help us to live by the Spirit of God, being careful to love You, following spiritual insight, not the world, centering our focus on God, not self. (1Jn.2:17)

Make us genuine in our acceptance of the Truths that Jesus is the Son of God, that He took on human flesh while remaining truly God, that He was born of a virgin and had no sin nature, that He died on the cross as the perfect, acceptable sacrifice for sin, that He rose from the dead and is seated at the right hand of God the Father.  Help me to abide in and share these biblical truths about my Savior. (1Jn.2:27)

Teach me to practice what being in Christ really means, communicating with You through prayer and Your Word, submitting to Your will by the power of the Holy Spirit, responding to the sure return of Christ with confidence and commitment. (1Jn.3:2)

A true believer’s behavior will match their belief.  Help us to look to Christ as our standard realizing that all sin originates from the Devil.  Jesus has come to destroy the Devil’s work, and that believers are truly God’s children called to live godly lives. (1Jn.3:10)

Genuine love is demonstrated by works, not words, help me to show genuine love for others through daily intercessory prayer, listening to and encouraging others, and serving others as a daily sacrifice to God.  I know by doing this I will fulfill the law of Christ. (1Jn.3:16)

As a true Christian I must be careful to discern between truth and error, affirming that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh, knowing those who accept this affirmation are of God and understand God’s truth.  Help me Lord to distinguish with keen insight between truth and error. (1Jn.4;2)

You, Father, have taught me that godly love is demonstrated by love and care for others, not just what I want (epithumia), nor by what feels good (eros), nor by what I am obligated to do (storge), not even just what a friend is for (philia), but by what I can give (agape), loving others with a sacrificial love. (1Jn.4:16)

Your Word teaches that faith in Christ overcomes the world, trusting Him for victory just as we have trusted Him for our salvation, receiving power for victory through the Holy Spirit who empowers us as we put our faith in God.  This we know that the world is powerless to overcome the believer who is empowered through faith in Christ. (1Jn.5:4)

Father, You have given confidence for life which comes from knowing Christ.  Continue to give us assurance that the struggles we face against sin are worth it,  that Your power will ultimately do away with all of life’s struggles, that You are available at any moment through prayer, that You want to hear and answer our prayers, giving us hope because You respond with grace that is sufficient for all our struggles.  Father, give us boldness because we have access to Your wisdom, living with that confidence in the face of conflict. (1Jn.5:20)

Assurance

God wants His children to know that they are truly saved, and to understand that biblical truth, obedience, and love, are the marks of authentic Christianity.
“These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God” (1 John 5:13).
Fellowship with other Christians flows out of regular and sincere prayer, humble service, esteeming others more highly than yourself, seeking to solve conflicts quickly, fellowship with God maintained by faithfully studying God's Word, consistent confession of sin, living obediently by the power of the Holy Spirit, these strengthen your fellowship with God and others.
“That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ” (1 John 1:3).
Fellowship is nurtured when sin is honestly confronted and understood that sin will destroy your intamacy with God, don't deny sin but confess it, know that all people are sinners yet believers have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ His Son, honestly confront sin in your life.
“And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world” (1 John 2:2).
The genuine Christian claims to know the True God, consistently obeys God’s Word, is in Christ and has God's love perfected in him, and loves God’s people, this obedience to God is evidenced by truly loving His people.
“He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked” (1 John 2:6).
In living by the Spirit of God, all Christians need to be careful to love God, following spiritual insight, not the world, centering your life on God rather than self.
“The world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever”
(1 John 2:17).
The genuine Christian accepts as truth that Jesus is the Son of God, that He took on human flesh while remaining truly God, He was born of a virgin and had no sin nature, dying on the cross as the perfect, acceptable sacrifice for sin, He arose from the dead and is now seated at the right hand of the Father, we must abide in and share these truths about Christ.
“But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him” (1 John 2:27).
Christ’s coming should produce confidence and commitment in learning what living like Christ means, communicating with God through prayer and His Word, submitting to God's will by the power of the Holy Spirit, responding to Christ’s coming with this confidence and commitment.
“Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is” (1 John 3:2).
A true believer’s behavior will match his or her belief, look to Christ as your standard realizing that all sin originates from the Devil, that Jesus has come to destroy the Devil's work, that believers are truly God's children, as such, believers should live godly lives.
“In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother” (1 John 3:10).
Genuine love is demonstrated by works, not words, show genuine love through daily prayer for one another, listening to and encouraging one another, serving one another as a daily sacrifice to God, so fulfilling the Law of Christ.
“Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren” (1 John 3:16).
Christians must be careful to discern between truth and error, affirming that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh, those who accept this affirmation are of God and understand God's Truth, being careful to discern between truth and error.
“Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God” (1 John 4:2).
Godly love is demonstrated by love and care for others, not just what I want (epithumia), nor what feels good (eros) , nor what I'm obligated to do (storge), not even just what a friend is for (philia), but what I can give (agape), loving others with a sacrificial love.
“And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him” (1 John 4:16).
Faith in Christ overcomes the world, trusting Him for victory just as we trusted Him for our salvation, receiving power for victory through the Holy Spirit who empowers us as we put our faith in God, knowing that the world is powerless to overcome the believer who is empowered through faith in Christ.
“For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith” (1 John 5:4).
Confidence for life comes from knowing Christ, giving us the assurance that the struggle against sin is worth it, that God's power will ultimately do away with all of life's struggles, that God is available at any moment through prayer, that He wants to hear and answer our prayers, giving us hope because God responds with grace sufficient for all our struggles, giving us boldness because we have access to God's wisdom, living with that confidence in the face of conflict.
“And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life” (1 John 5:20).

On Death and Darkness

The darkness of the heavens could not match the sin-dark hearts
Of angry crowds of wicked men who played their wicked parts
To bring a perfect, guiltless Man to violently be killed
The cruelest way man could conceive, reserved for vilest guilt.

So filled with hate, so blind with rage, they could not understand
That in the sequence of events moved more than human hands
As the same sovereign power worked as moved the soldiers’ dice,
Unknowingly they crucified a willing Sacrifice.

His face could not be recognized; His beard the crowds had plucked.
Deep in the skin around His head a crown of thorns was stuck.
A placard nailed above His head declared Him as their King
Yet though they had rejected Him, for them He took Death’s sting.

Obedient though suffering excruciating pain,
He for the joy of saving them endured and scorned the shame.
His friends, the few who dared to come, stood helpless there and grieved
As He whose word gave breath to man spent all His strength to breathe.

None other knew the meaning as the midday sky turned black
That on His Son, Who bore their sin, the Father turned His back.
Unknown through all eternity, that God could God forsake,
But God the Son had lost the bond that sin alone could break.

A Man of Sorrows, He was called, acquainted well with grief.
The crowds who railed and mocked His pain considered Him a thief
Not like the thieves who hung by Him, who died for crimes they’d done,
But He, who they thought just a man, had made Himself God’s Son.

As Moses lifted up the snake, so He was lifted high
Though they knew not sin’s fatal bite and that they too would die
Had He not come to die for them and their sin’s wage receive
To offer them eternal life—to all who would believe.

As God’s full wrath was satisfied, the rocks prepared to break,
The temple veil to tear in two, and earth itself to quake.
Then knowing that He had done all the Father’s justice asked
He cried out that the debt was paid, then bowed and breathed His last.

His followers knew not their hope—their grief left hope no room.
In final service, so they thought, they laid Him in a tomb.
But in three days the stone would move, the graveclothes be uncurled,
And He would rise in victory, the Savior of the world.

Responses to the God of the Prophets:

God requires obedience to His revealed will.
Duet.18:19 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.
God takes sin seriously and will judge sinners. Purify yourself in light of God's judgment.
Nahum1:3 The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the LORD hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
God's judgment of sinners is righteous. Faithfully witness in light of this coming judgment.
Nahum3:7 And it shall come to pass, that all they that look upon thee shall flee from thee, and say, Nineveh is laid waste: who will bemoan her? whence shall I seek comforters for thee?
Although we do not always understand God's ways, we should still trust in Him. Trust God even when His ways don't make sense to you.
Hab.2:4 Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.
God is in control, even during difficult times, so we should rejoice in Him at all times.
Hab.3:18 Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.
Fear and respect the God who will judge the world in the end times.
Zep.1:7 Hold thy peace at the presence of the Lord GOD: for the day of the LORD is at hand: for the LORD hath prepared a sacrifice, he hath bid his guests.
Seek to know and do the will of God who expects and enables us to do His will.
Zeph.2:4 Yet now be strong, O Zerubbabel, saith the LORD; and be strong, O Joshua, son of Josedech, the high priest; and be strong, all ye people of the land, saith the LORD, and work: for I am with you, saith the LORD of hosts:
Find hope in the God who is our source of hope for now and in the future.
Zech.1:3 Therefore say thou unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Turn ye unto me, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will turn unto you, saith the LORD of hosts.
Serve our God who provides encouragement and empowerment for service.
Zech. 4:6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.
Live genuinely before the Lord seeing that obedience to God is more important than ritual.
Zech. 7:9 Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Execute true judgment, and shew mercy and compassions every man to his brother: 10 And oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart.
God wants us to live with eternity's values in view.
Zech. 14:9 And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and his name one.
God expects us to honor Him with our best.
Malachi 1:6 A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master: if then I be a father, where is mine honour? and if I be a master, where is my fear? saith the LORD of hosts unto you, O priests, that despise my name. And ye say, Wherein have we despised thy name?
God desires that we reflect and glorify Him in our relationships and use of money.
Malachi 3:16 Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name.

Prayer of Response to God's Faithful Intervention:

Holy God, grant us courageous obedience in following your Word as holy men of God carried along by Your Holy Spirit.
Let us be faithful to our faithful God, knowing we are eternally Yours in righteousness, judgment, loving-kindness, mercies, and faithfulness; knowing You through Your Word, having received eternal life through Jesus. Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously: as we render to You the praise of our lips.
Let us identify and turn from sins in our lives, seeing them as You do with Your Pure eyes and Loving heart, for Your ways are right and we want to walk in them. Lord unto You will we cry as we humbly respond to the teachings of Your Son. Our hearts are broken and we are contrite as we turn to You , and remember that You are gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, turn from the terrible spankings we deserve.
We do not want to be those who sell the righteous for our own gain or pant lustfully after the things of this world, neither do we want to cause others to stumble.
Help us, before leaving our prayer time each morning to ask, " What sayeth my Lord unto His servant?", clean out our ears that I may listen to what our Lord commands. Command us what you will and give us what you command.
We respect and trust You our Judge, understanding from Your Word that when we stumble, You will not let us fall upon the earth. Help us to recognize pride and to turn from it, seeking to know and do Your good and acceptable will.
When our souls faint within us, let us remember You, and let our prayer come unto You. Let us respond to our failures by submitting to You, our Lord and our God. Turn us from the desires of reward, or hire, or money, leaning upon You with confidence from Your Word that You permanently indwell us and that no evil can ever come upon and destroy us.
Help us to rejoice in the forgiveness of our sins, the future You have promised with Your Son, our Savior. Make us truly be in practice what we already are in Christ, dealing justly in our way of life, loving mercy, and walking humbly with our God. Therefore will we look unto the Lord; we will wait for the God of our salvation: our God will hear us, because He retains not His anger forever and delights in mercy.
